About

Jeff and Helena are licensed architects living and working in mid-coast Maine.

Jeffrey Leclair, AIA LEED AP

Jeffrey was born and raised in Belfast, Maine and started his first job at age seven delivering newspapers by bicycle in the early morning hours before school. This may have been the impetus for his love of maps, and his habit of drawing them with surprising accuracy from memory. Jeff studied engineering and art history at Tufts University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. After working as an architectural designer for several years, Jeff returned to school and received a Masters in Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In the subsequent years, Jeff led several significant projects in the Boston area including the rehabilitation of the Josep Lluis Sert tower for Boston University Law School, and the expansion of Lavietes Pavilion at Harvard University.

Helena Leclair, AIA LEED AP

Helena grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts, the middle daughter of an architect father and puppeteer mother. Summers were synonymous with camping excursions to Moosehead Lake in Maine. Inspired by her father, and her own predilections for art and order, she earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University in 2007. Later she received a Master in Design Studies from Harvard Graduate School of Design with a concentration in Art, Design, and the Public Domain. Helena has almost two decades of experience working in architecture firms in Boston, Cambridge, and mid-coast Maine, including Aamodt/Plumb Architects, Perry Dean Rogers Partners Architects, and most recently Phi Builders + Architects.

Jeff and Helena met in 2012 while they were both teaching Masters Architecture Studios at the Boston Architectural College. They relocated to Rockport, Maine in 2019 with their son, Jordi, and established UNISON Architects in 2024.
